Interactive Map!
STAY TUNED! We're still working on getting a mirror link to have a live version of the map online. Below is just a screenshot.

This is the ATAS app, an interactive way we can keep an eye on the antennas and the tracked animals. White circles with black numbers are Babblers (Click here to meet the tagged birds), blue circles with white numbers are antennas. Learn about our tags below!

Click on the location symbol (top right corner) to see the live map with active locations.

Click on the matrix (top right corner) to see which antenna is picking up each tag.
A tag must be picked up by at least 3 antennas to show on the map, so they may not all show up all the time.

The Tags
The tags are deceptively simple. They consist of a microchip (which we preset to a certain frequency), a battery (which is activated on deployment), and an antenna. The whole thing is wrapped in epoxy to keep dust out.

The Harness
For the Arabian Babblers, after experimenting with a few setups we went with leg-loop harnesses using a thin silicone thread. Tags are prepared ahead of time, erring on the side of slightly too large, and then fitted directly to each individual bird.
